Cherry Blossoms of Japan
featuring Springtime cruising aboard Diamond Princess
Few cultures are as rich and colourful as Japan’s and on our luxurious, hosted tour, you’ll experience the wondrous and iconic sights, sounds and aromas that will ensure this breathtaking island nation is one of the most memorable destinations you’ve ever visited.
By land and sea, you’ll see sumo wrestlers perform, learn how to make sushi, wear traditional kimonos, visit ornate, spring-time gardens and imperial palaces. You will have the opportunity to join the shopping frenzy of Ginza, ride a Shinkansen bullet train, meet authentic Maiko/Geishas, partake in a traditional tea ceremony in a temple and sail on Lake Ashi known for its perfect views of Mount Fuji. Perhaps even take a dip in one of the traditional ‘Onsens’ – natural hot springs at Hakone.
Beginning with an 8-night tour, we’ll take in Tokyo – one of the world’s biggest and most technologically advanced cities, the majestic Mt Fuji and the ancient, cultural capital of Kyoto with its 1,600 shrines, temples and gardens. You will then board the Diamond Princess for an 8-night voyage exploring the islands of Honshu and Shikoku, and ports including Kochi where cultural traditions have been nurtured throughout history including “Tosa washi” – the making of traditional handmade Japanese paper.
You’ll also travel to the South Korean city of Busan known for its beaches and where drinking tea is treated as a form of calming meditation. There is also an opportunity to visit the United Nations War Cemetery where 281 Australian soldiers lie at rest with over 2,000 of their UN allies from the Korean War.
Historic sites such as Kochi Castle, old sake breweries, traditional markets and railways are well preserved. Cruise on to Himeji, most famous for having Japan’s most beautiful surviving feudal castle, designated as both a national treasure and a UNESCO world heritage site.
You’ll be visiting Japan in Cherry Blossom season, where millions of trees often spring into soft shades of white and pink. You will be looked after on this luxurious escorted tour by Cruise Express.
We invite you to share the magic of Japan with us in the northern Spring of 2019.
