South Pole Expedition Flight

The first and only commercial scenic flight to the South Pole from Australia is departing Melbourne this November making it a unique opportunity for Antarctica enthusiasts. Names such as Mawson, Shakleton, Amundsen and Scott will ring in your ears as you indulge in history of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.

Indulge in Antarctica’s most celebrated history on this 16 hour return flight sightseeing tour. The plan is to follow Captain Robert Falcon’ Scott’s route to the South Pole, passing over Ross Island which Scott used as a base for his attempts to the South Pole. Following his route across the Ross Ice Shelf towards the Transantarctic mountains. Continue across the Antarctic Polar Plateau all the way to the South Pole. If conditions allow, the South Pole Station, which is manned year round by a team of international scientists, may be in view.

Return to Australia via Roald Amundsen’s South Pole route, flying over the Ross Ice Shelf to the Bay of Whales, Amundsen’s starting point for his South Pole expedition.

The main focus of this flight will be to retrace these historic routes taken by Scott and Amundsen. Like the explorers before us, Antarctica is unpredictable and the weather can change at any time. This flight is mostly at cruising speed and high altitude and reliable weather cannot be guaranteed once the flight takes off.
