Voyage to the Vineyards 2019

Tasmania and New Zealand

Welcome to our exclusive, gastronomic voyage to Tasmania and New Zealand. Whether you’re a wine buff or a novice, this luxury food and wine journey will indulge your tastebuds with a veritable feast of experiences. Visit a vineyard in Tasmania, cruise through the spectacular Fiordland National Park, discover the wildlife and Scottish heritage of Dunedin, explore the charming, French-styled village of Akaroa, enjoy lunch amongst the vines of New Zealand’s premier Marlborough wine region, take in the geysers and Maori culture of Rotorua and relax in the beautiful Bay of Islands.

Wine experts from two premium wineries – Torbreck (Barossa Valley) and Escarpment (Martinborough) will host two private, wine-paired luncheons aboard the stylish Celebrity Solstice. The onboard sommelier will also lead a behind-the-scenes tour of the ship’s culinary operations and stunning 1800-bottle glass wine tower in the Grand Epernay Restaurant.

If you have a thirst for more, join our optional panoramic, 4-day extension from Auckland to Wellington aboard the historic, privately chartered RM31 railcar, ‘Tokomaru’, named after a Maori canoe. Visit boutique vineyards on Waiheke Island and the famous Martinborough wine region – home to the Pinot Noir-flaunting Escarpment winery, now owned by Barossa Valley’s Torbreck. You’ll also stay in the grand, Chateau Tongariro, backdropped by sacred, lofty peaks in the heart of the North Island and the quirky capital of Wellington with a visit to the incredible Te Papa National Museum.

Join us on this unique, epicurean journey packed with flavour and value, including multiple shore excursions, VIP onboard experiences and a complimentary onboard beverage package if you book an Oceanview stateroom or above.

Cheers!

Torbreck Wines

Torbreck is on a quest to become one of the world’s great wine marques. ‘A critical part of their journey is remaining unwaveringly true to their core vision and not being diverted by trends and fashions’. Since 1994 Torbreck has been committed to creating exceptional Rhone style red and white wines reflecting the very best vineyards in Australia’s famous Barossa. They believe the Barossa is the most exciting place to make wine in the world, with its gentle Mediterranean climate and 175 years of Silesian and English commitment to winemaking and grape-growing. Torbreck pays tribute to their vineyards with minimal intervention, creating wines of richness, structure and length that age gracefully.

RM31 railcar

Pahiatua Railcar Society

Six rail motors were built at the NZR Hutt Workshops between 1938 and 1939, each with a semi-streamlined design featuring slanting ends. Each car had two compartments, the larger with 36 seats (second class) and the smaller with 12 seats (first class) or 16 seats (second class) but later became second-class only. The original silver body colour with a green stripe was inconspicuous, and was soon replaced by plain red with grey or black roofs and later still became red with silver (later white) stripes and a grey roof. All six of the Standard railcars were named after Māori canoes.

The Standard railcars were first used to operate a fast return service from Wellington to New Plymouth, and soon a Hawkes Bay service between Wairoa and Napier was added, along with a Sundays-only return service from Napier to Wellington. In 1943, the Wairoa-Napier service was extended to serve Gisborne. The Standard railcars never operated in the South Island and were withdrawn in 1972. Two-thirds of the class have been preserved.

RM 31 was for a time held at Masterton, but was later placed on loan to the Pahiatua Railcar Society at Pahiatua. The car was later bequeathed to the society along with the manuals and spare parts. The car was then brought up to mainline standards in late 2011 with ditchlights mounted in headstocks. The first revenue run (as a heritage rail vehicle) was on 12 February 2012.
