Torbreck is on a quest to become one of the world’s great wine marques. ‘A critical part of their journey is remaining unwaveringly true to their core vision and not being diverted by trends and fashions’. Since 1994 Torbreck has been committed to creating exceptional Rhone style red and white wines reflecting the very best vineyards in Australia’s famous Barossa. They believe the Barossa is the most exciting place to make wine in the world, with its gentle Mediterranean climate and 175 years of Silesian and English commitment to winemaking and grape-growing. Torbreck pays tribute to their vineyards with minimal intervention, creating wines of richness, structure and length that age gracefully.
Pahiatua Railcar Society
Six rail motors were built at the NZR Hutt Workshops between 1938 and 1939, each with a semi-streamlined design featuring slanting ends. Each car had two compartments, the larger with 36 seats (second class) and the smaller with 12 seats (first class) or 16 seats (second class) but later became second-class only. The original silver body colour with a green stripe was inconspicuous, and was soon replaced by plain red with grey or black roofs and later still became red with silver (later white) stripes and a grey roof. All six of the Standard railcars were named after Māori canoes.
The Standard railcars were first used to operate a fast return service from Wellington to New Plymouth, and soon a Hawkes Bay service between Wairoa and Napier was added, along with a Sundays-only return service from Napier to Wellington. In 1943, the Wairoa-Napier service was extended to serve Gisborne. The Standard railcars never operated in the South Island and were withdrawn in 1972. Two-thirds of the class have been preserved.
RM 31 was for a time held at Masterton, but was later placed on loan to the Pahiatua Railcar Society at Pahiatua. The car was later bequeathed to the society along with the manuals and spare parts. The car was then brought up to mainline standards in late 2011 with ditchlights mounted in headstocks. The first revenue run (as a heritage rail vehicle) was on 12 February 2012.
