Changes to ‘Spirit of Progress’ Historic Northbound and Southbound Journeys – March 2021
As we prepare these Q&A’s the borders are once again closed between NSW and Victoria and therefore our historic Inaugural Journeys of ‘The Spirit of Progress’ from Melbourne to Sydney on the 18th March & Sydney to Melbourne on the 21st March, 2021 are once more in doubt.
Based on discussions with our sales team we know many of you have concerns about travelling in March prior to the Vaccine roll out and others are planning to book additional flights and accommodation around this March tour which if cancelled may result in more changes and cost.
Given that historically state borders have only re-opened after lengthy periods with no locally acquired transmissions and with our clients and suppliers peace of mind paramount we have made the difficult decision to postpone this historic journey once again.
Here are some questions and answers to assist you with the forthcoming options.
What does the new Spirit of Progress rail package Northbound include:
The new rail package will still include the historic Inaugural Northbound journey on ‘Spirit of Progress’ from Melbourne to Sydney with all inclusions originally offered on the train and in Albury.
What does the new Spirit of Progress Southbound rail package include?
The new rail package will still include the historic Inaugural Southbound journey on Spirit of Progress from Sydney to Melbourne with all inclusions originally offered on the train, in Albury and Melbourne with an Economy class flight back to Sydney on the 26th October 2021.
If I wish to cancel, am I able to use all the money I have paid towards a future Rail or Rail & Sail journey with Cruise Express?
Yes, if you no longer wish to travel in October 2021 on the new dates, on either package you can receive a Future Rail Credit (FRC) for the full value of all money paid to Cruise Express.
Your FRC may be redeemed against any Cruise Express operated Rail or Rail & Sail trip between now and the end of 2022. We have various rail packages available for sale in 2021 with more new departures in planning and to be released in coming weeks. Full details can be found HERE
Note: if your FRC covers the entire cost of a future trip you may use any surplus funds towards another!
What if I wish to cancel completely, can I get a full refund?
In preparation for our original ‘Spirit and the Princess’ journeys in March/April 2020, the majority of funds received were expensed in readying the historic Spirit of Progress train and in reserving the hotel accommodation and other services for the planned tour.
Services have been carried forward by our suppliers for us to use in conjunction with these inaugural rail journeys but are not available to us as refunds. As advised above, if you wish to cancel, you will receive a small partial refund or be eligible to request the full value of your trip as a Future Rail Credit (FRC)
