We look forward to welcoming you aboard this exciting steam-hauled journey to Kiama. With your safety and enjoyment in mind, here’s what you need to know to get the most from your day out. Onboard staff will be at hand on the day to assist you and answer any questions you might have.

Preparing for your day out

√ We suggest you wear dark coloured clothing. Smoke or ash will sometimes enter the carriage, especially if the windows are open
√ There are no buffet facilities on the train so you are welcome to bring your own snacks
√ You may also bring alcoholic beverages aboard but please note there are no fridge facilities available and large eskies are not permitted
√ Don’t forget your mobile phone – you will need it for check in!
√ Perhaps also bring an external battery for phone charging as there are no power outlets onboard

Boarding at Sydney Terminal or Sutherland

♦ Please meet the Cruise Express Tour Managers on the main concourse at Sydney Terminal, near Country platforms (1-4). Look for our blue/white checked shirts and bright orange caps!
♦  All passengers must be double vaccinated against COVID-19 and be able to show official proof of this. Failure to do so will result in being denied boarding
♦  On arrival all passengers will be temperature tested. Any passenger with an abnormally high temperature or displaying signs of illness may be denied boarding
♦  All passengers will be required to check in by scanning our QR code
♦  Cruise Express staff will provide all passengers with a lanyard and ticket displaying car and seat numbers
PLEASE NOTE: Passengers will be required to show photo ID; tickets are non-transferrable
♦ At the station please adhere to social distancing as required including at entry and exit points or where markings are in place
♦ Staff will be on hand to direct you to the correct carriage – please follow their directions
♦ Passengers may be asked to wear face masks whilst onboard, except when eating or drinking
♦ Cruise Express will follow strict COVIDSafe protocols in line with NSW Government guidelines on the day of travel

Train timings

√ Please be aware that while we expect to follow our scheduled timetable, sometimes incidents or factors throughout the rail network may cause the train to be delayed. Should there be any major change to the day’s timings the onboard staff will keep you informed

Onboard the train

♦ All passengers will be assigned window seats, one either side of a table
♦ Once seated, passengers will be requested not to move about the train except when using the bathroom
♦ Strict onboard social distancing protocols will be in place to minimise movement about the train
♦ Should you need to move about for any other reason,  we request that you wear a face mask at all times
♦ Onboard staff will move about the carriage from time to time to clean and sanitise
♦ The train is not air conditioned. Should you wish to open the windows, please take care as they are heavy. Staff will be on hand should you need assistance
♦ You may be asked to close the windows before the train enters tunnels, to avoid smoke and ash entering the carriage
♦ The train is owned and will be operated by “The Picnic Train’ and their onboard staff will also be happy to assist you with anything you may need on the day

Onboard food and beverages

♦ Morning tea and an evening snack and beverage will be provided, as outlined in our day tour inclusions
♦ If you choose to bring any additional food or beverages with you, please do not share them with other passengers

In Kiama

♦ Before disembarking all passengers will be given a time to be back at the station for our return to Sydney
♦ Passengers will be requested not to group on the platform or station environs
♦ After disembarking in Kiama we will proceed together as a group to the nearby Grand Hotel Kiama for our included lunch
♦ All passengers will be provided with a voucher with a value of $XX pp for lunch and one beverage
♦ Should you not use the entire value of your voucher, there is no refund
♦ Please follow all COVIDSafe protocols and social distancing requirements at the venue, as directed by hotel staff on the day
