United States of America
Australian passport holders wishing to travel to the United States of America are subject to enhanced security requirements under the Visa Waiver Program and are required to apply for an Electronic System of Travel Authorization (ESTA) visa waiver no later than 72 hours prior to departure, and pay an administration fee (currently USD21 per person) using the following link. The ESTA visa waiver is valid for up to two years.
Canada
Australians travelling to Canada by air now require pre-arrival clearance. The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is compulsory for travellers who do not require a visa to enter Canada. Travellers apply online, providing basic personal information similar to what is currently collected when arriving in Canada and paying a fee (currently CAD$7 per person). The eTA is convenient and paperless, which means most visa-exempt nationals wishing to travel to Canada will have their eTA granted within minutes of applying. Having obtained an eTA, travellers to Canada can expect faster service upon arrival at the border. The eTA is valid for up to five years. Travellers arriving into Canada by sea are not required to apply for the eTA.
United Kingdom
From January 2025, the United Kingdom requires all travellers of non-European nationality who do not hold a United Kingdom or Ireland passport to present the UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for entry by air or sea.
Australian passport holders can apply for an ETA by visiting the link below, completing the application process and paying the required fee (currently GBP10 per person, increasing to GBP16 per person on 9 April 2025).
New Zealand
For travel to New Zealand, Australian passport holders are required to complete a Travel Declaration, whether arriving by air or sea. The earliest you can submit your declaration is 24 hours prior to departure, and it is a simple online process accessible by clicking the link below. There is no cost associated with the declaration. If arriving by cruise ship, your declaration needs to be submitted prior to the ship arriving at it’s first cruise port in New Zealand.
NOTE. The above information is subject to change at any time and applies strictly to Australian passport holders only. Meeting all visa and waiver requirements prior to departure is strictly the responsibility of the individual. However, we strongly recommend you speak to your Cruise Express Travel Specialist for guidance.
