Galapagos of the Southern Ocean

New Zealand & Australia's Subantarctic Islands - 12 Days

from $19,590* pp twin share | $24,250* solo

Embarking on a journey through the Subantarctic Islands is one of the most inspiring ways to experience the wild beauty of the Southern Ocean. Recognised for their extraordinary biodiversity, these remote islands have earned a place on Condé Nast Traveler’s “25 Best Places to Go in 2025” and are protected as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Visiting feels like stepping into a rare wildlife sanctuary, brought to life by passionate expert guides.

Heritage Expeditions is the most experienced Southern Ocean operators having explored the Subantarctic Islands for more than 35 years. The “Galapagos of the Southern Ocean” trip has become one of their iconic signature voyages. Heritage Expeditions enjoy excellent relationships with the conservation departments and some of the access permits they hold are unique to these expeditions. Travellers can expect close encounters with an incredible range of wildlife including albatrosses, penguins, petrels, sea lions and fur seals, as well as seeing unique and largely endemic plant life shaped by the cool temperate climate. It’s a rare chance to experience some of the planet’s most untouched natural habitats, all while journeying with the people who know them best.
